The concept of REALTORS® asking Vancouver homeowners to tidy up when they sell their homes is not new but the days of REALTORS® asking sellers to 'simply' bake cookies and light candles are a thing of the past. Or at least they should be…
What started out as common-sense practices when selling a home has turned into what we now know as 'real estate staging'.
When home staging first started it involved cleaning, de-cluttering and packing away personal items and photos. Sometimes it even consisted of rearranging furniture and pictures. The concept of appealing to the majority rather than figuring out the potential home buyer’s demographics was paired with beige and more beige. Today, real estate staging has grown into a legitimate profession and is an important marketing tool used to sell property.
Staging has advanced from the beige basics to well-planned, beautiful spaces that connect with the buyer’s emotions. Furniture, accessories and colour are now used to highlight aspects of architecture and flaunt a property’s selling features. We understand the importance of flooring, paint and worthwhile upgrades to showcase your home and leave the buyer wanting to make an offer.
With the popularity of TV shows and HGTV home sellers grow more and more interested in the potential to maximize their most equitable investment. But to take it one step further, the Real Estate Staging Association, of which I am a member, has conducted a study to prove that staging absolutley works! Stay tuned for the results as they will be posted in the coming days.
We will also be publishing tidbits from our ‘Fit To Sell’ program. It’s about understanding not only how to prepare your home in the months prior to your listing date, but gaining the insight to determine the necessary upgrades. Learn how to build instant equity in your new home.
